Dear Friends and Bloggers,
It is with deep sorrow and pain that I inform you of the demise of Ariston. Over the past twelve months Mrs Sensible has cared for Ariston on a daily basis. She made sure he was clean and his needs were met.
Unfortunately Ariston passed away during the early hours this morning. Mrs Sensible discovered Ariston demise, when she went to make some toast for my breakfast and realised that the bread had defrosted.
I was called to the scene and although his light had not gone out, it was apparent that Ariston was indeed dead. All attempts to revive him failed.
We believe the lightning strike that frazzled the internet modem also mortally wounded Ariston.
This evening there will be a wake in memory of Ariston, on the menu will be recently defrosted sausages, fish-fingers and chicken wings.
And so it is with a heavy heart we say goodbye Ariston.
P.S If anyone can suggest a decent replacement for Ariston, Mrs Sensible and I would be grateful. We are considering either a Hotpoint or a Beko
My frostiest of condolences. Whatever you do, do not replace him with an Edesa…

Edesa, sounds like a nice female Nordic name. I think I would prefer a female fridge than another male one.

How about a Miele? They last. And they probably stick up their Germanic finger to lightning…

I was hoping the fridge would last another 18 months, we are planning to move south and it would be one less thing to move

Well, if you want one for 18 months, go with the Edesa!

At least you have an excuse for a party. You can invite the neighbors in to help you eat all the defrosted food that has now been so lovingly prepared by Mrs. Sensible. You can call it his wake.

Poor Ariston. When I saw his name a TV advert came to mind – the words were something like “Ariston and on and on and on…” Seems as thought your Ariston didn’t believe the advertising!

it was sudden, we feel quite bereft my wallet will also feel the pain.
Do you think I can sue them for false advertising?

It’s always hardest when it’s sudden – no gradual coming to terms with the inevitable loss… I would sue away. 🙂

The loss of the tub of Italian ice cream was particularly hard to get over, I haven’t been able to break that bad news to Mrs Sensible yet

Couldn’t you quickly eat it before it spoiled? That is a loss!

This is hilarious. I have only been following you for a few weeks and thought that Ariston was a pet. 🙂

😀😀 I received a great message of condolences from a friend, she also thought a cat had died, it was only after she read it a second time that the penny dropped.

Originally I thought it was a neighbor that she had been caring for (I wondered when she had time).
But losing a fridge could be almost as bad as losing a best friend (unless he’s been raiding said fridge).

I have some very expensive Tahitian Vanilla Bean Gelato in my fridge. I think I need to go eat it. It’s left over from the Festa my Italian class had last evening. I’ll email you the link to our pictures.

I did start off thinking it was the dog… ( I never think of cats… ). The brand is unknown here in the Tundra, you see.
My condolences but hey, it’s a party! How is Mrs S taking it?

She is still in mourning, We should have opened one of those insurance policies against sudden loss. Unplugging him was the hardest… just watching his light finally going out… made me weep

I agree with Elaine – sue away – wasn’t the advertising ‘on and on and on and Ariston’? Is nothing sacred any more? Ps the lightening seems to have fried a number of computers here in Umbria too…or is that just the excuse my geometra is giving me….!

Hi John, my laptop survived the Lightning strike and the burglars that broke into my house, the modem following the storm was as dead as a dodo.
Ariston is still in the house, we don’t know whether to cremate him or bury him.
I think Elaine is correct, I will sue

Alas poor Ariston, I knew him well…
Why not look for a second-hand replacement that you can chuck out when you move?

I haven’t ever seen a second hand shop over here, it is a good idea and I will ask around, the fridge is still working, I just don’t have anywhere for my ice pops and ice cream

We have websites where you can sell your stuff (a bit like Ebay but no auctioning), and there are charity centres like Emaüs which sell on donated stuff. Perhaps there’s something like that in Italy?

Maybe a neighbour or friend will have a spare fridge to lend you until you move. Where are you heading this time, and why do you keep shuffling around Italy? Have you been forgetting to pay bills or something?

We initially moved into a house next to the rice fields and were driven away by the mosquitoes, our plan was to live in the North until Mrs S received her full time contract, then move to Sicily to be near her family and the sea
