Monday morning with Mrs Sensible

On Monday morning Mrs Sensible went back to work, the children have another week of holiday before they return to the classroom. I am not sure what Mrs S does in an empty school, allegedly she is attending meetings and organising the new school term, but I think she sits at her desk sharpening her pencils and practicing telling the chilblains to sit down, be quiet, do your work…….

I phoned Sicily this morning and asked my father in law for a quick update on life, he told me he has made 300 liters of home-made wine. He said it should be ready for December, so guess where we will be spending the Christmas Holidays, he also told me the mysterious case of the missing pig has been solved!!!

I know you guys have been worried about the little black pig, but fear not my father in law told me Davide found the pig sat outside his pen making little grunting noises. Probably pig talk for I have been on my holidays and I am now  hungry and thirsty. So all’s well that ends well.

So as one holiday ends I can now start planing my next trip to Sicily, I understand the pig has been invited to Christmas dinner although he may find himself on the table rather than sat at it.

  1. Are you still on your cornflakes and wine diet? And did Mrs Sensible take out her wet wooden spoon when she got home? Good luck to her for the new school year – I hope it will go smoothly and that she will have lovely chilblain. French teachers are already preparing their first strike because the government the elected to make changes isn’t making the changes they were hoping for. I have a feeling they are sharpening their pencils to prod the government’s bottom.

    • The cornflakes and wine diet was given the boot, I am allowed to still have cornflakes but only in the morning and sans wine.
      I will pass your wishes onto Mrs S, I don’t mind if she sends her collections of wooden spoons to your French teachers

  2. looking at this sweet little piggy, I feel very guilty over my intense love of bacon- and with Mrs S returning the classroom, I am reminded why I am so happy I have retired from all of that—the endless and often senseless preparation meetings obviously seem to be a universal lament and dare I say waste of time 🙂

      Fortunately this week Mrs S is only in school during the morning. Which is great because she is home in time to cook my dinner……. otherwise I would be back on the wine and cornflakes diet.

  3. I also send best wishes to Mrs. S for the new school year. Teachers here are also considering striking. They may have already done it….I haven’t heard the news this morning.

    Poor piggy indeed! But at least he will lead a happy, well fed life till Christmas.

  7. My best wishes to Mrs Sensible, too, for the new term. Speaking as a teacher myself, the time in school before the little blighters, sorry children, arrive is by far the best. You can achieve so much without them, and their parents, asking questions or generally just getting in the way. 😉

  9. Can I come to the bloggers convention in Siciliy too? Otherwise, maybe you should bring some of those 300 litres back to Piemonte. You wouldn’t want to ruin Christmas by drinking it all and getting a hangover! Definitely better to share…

  10. I am so pleased that the pig is safely home. You should have kept that quiet PN as there maybe an uproar (remember the cat !) over that pig being Xmas dinner. There might be a black sheep on the table instead 😉 LOL
    Did Mrs Sensible use the wooden spoon before “your” became “you’re” ? Photos of that on your next post please ! (another LOL) 😀

    • I corrected the photo before Mrs S had time to read the post, she was a little confused by Berlinda’s comment. I pretended to be confused as well and just said Berlinda is a little crazy 😉

  12. The home made wine sounds utterly delicious. But, boo to the fact that the pig was too stupid to stay on the lam and now will be fattened for a Christmas feast. I hope your wife was eager to return to teaching as opposed to most kids who are not all that keen to go back to school.

          • I remember now that as an honorary member of the “Sisterhood of the Traveling Scarves” when we bought the T-shirt from Austraila we had a choice of one “L” or two.
            So I should have known about “jewellry” and “jewelry”.
            My spelling is probably based on how much coffee I’ve had or how recently I’ve been spelling in Italian. English words that are spelled with a CH are suddenly becoming CI!

            • don’t worry, I am using an app called Words with Friends to play scrabble with Mrs Sensible, I throw letters at the game and sometimes I am lucky and a word I didn’t know existed is accepted by the game.
              Mrs S is less than pleased when this happens, sometimes I try to bluff her by saying the word means … an ancient wooden mill.

              Despite English being Mr Sensible’s second language she is whooping me 😉
